Whether it is a dart impact test on a plastic sample that has been in a freezer for 24 hours or a complete panel and hinge that we continuously wrap around a jamb to identify the point of failure, we test materials, components, current production models, new product prototypes and competitors doors everyday to insure our customers can count on the quality and durability of every Chase Doors product.

Incoming inspection is where it all begins. Visual inspection and random sample testing of material and components before they reach the production line is standard procedure. Due to our volume and variety of purchases, we screen and develop vendor partners that understand and adhere to our quality requirements. We also utilize third party inspection services to verify materials, dimensions and tolerances on metal castings and stampings.

Then after we build a door we take our testing to extremes. We designed and built a series of complete door test fixtures. Collectively referred to in-house as the "door destroyers" these platforms perform accelerated life tests on in-production, prototypes and competitive door products. We cycle test the panel and hinge as one assembly because, beyond cycles (or number of swings) and panel integrity, it introduces the real life transfer of shock and vibration as a result of the initial panel impact and secondary jamb wrapping stress on the hinge system and components. You don't just test a car at 35 mph on straight roads with no bumps or potholes as a life expectancy test. Sure, it will eventually breakdown or wear out but it may take 20 years. Impact traffic doors are designed to be abused. We know jamb wrapping is commonplace and an acknowledged cause of door failures. We are not only pushing the panels but the hinges as well to their limits. Think of impact doors as off road vehicles four wheeling over rocks and through streams. Without stressing the hinge system along with the panel you only are testing the normal wear parts like the roller bearing and the bearing manufacturers' technical data sheet will tell you how long it will last under what load.

Accelerated life testing is commonly used to extrapolate total life expectancy in mechanical systems. Life expectancy, in many cases can also be theoretical based on an engineering analysis of the materials, design, and stresses on a component or system. The auto industry among many others does this all the time from components (cam shaft bearing) to sub assemblies (the engine) to complete assemblies (the car). Push it till it breaks so you know what, when, where and why it going to fail.

Since we test all doors (panel and hinge together) in this exact same way, this one standard "abusive" door test can be applied to any door model and the many different applications for that door model as long as you define the "abuse" factor. A "normal" door test without impact or jamb wrapping would not quickly show typical points of failure in materials or design.
